Rachel Emily Nichols was the daughter of Alison Nichols and James Nichols. She was born in Augusta Maine. She is of French Canadian, German and Irish descent. Cony High School was her high school in Augusta. She graduated from the school with a math diploma and a competitive high jump. Columbia University in New York City offered her a double major in math and economics. She started modeling and launched an impressive career as a model working for high-profile companies like Guess?, Abercrombie & Fitch and L'Oreal. Rachel moved into acting after being offered a part on the HBO comedy Sex and the City (1998). In the prequel Dumb and Dumberer, When Harry met Lloyd (2003) She was the first actress to play Jessica Matthews.
