Padma Lakshmi Bio
Padma Parvati Lakshmi was born on September 1, 1970, in Chennai, India. Lakshmi lost her parents at the age of 2 years old. Her mother moved to America in order to avoid the guilt of divorce in India. Lakshmi stayed with her grandparents from Chennai for two years prior to moving to the United States. Both of her parents later remarried and she also has a younger half-brother and half-sister on her father's side. Lakshmi who's last name is the Hindu goddess of prosperity, wealth and success was born in New York. She then was raised by her mother and stepfather in Los Angeles. She went back to India for a few months every year to visit family. Padma Lakshmi started acting in 1999. The first film she acted in was "Figlio of Sandokan", a movie about the life of an Italian pirate. Next, she appeared in "Caraibi", a drama about 17th Century pirates. In 2001, she played an amusing part in the American film 'Glitter in which she was a disco-singing singer. Padm
